Why am I just starting to watch Greenleaf and it's on the second season! I'm always behind on some show, movie, or album but the casting, plot, and themes in the drama Greenleaf that comes on OWN are remarkable. Greenleaf explores the trials of Calvary, a mega church in Memphis. Grace "GiGi" Greenleaf returns home after 20 years to bury her sister Faith, but ends up staying with the intentions of bringing justice to her sister and the many other girls her Uncle Macc sexually assaulted. Apart from Lynn Whitfield's impeccable performance as first lady, Lady Mae Greenleaf and all the drama that comes with the series, I love most that this show draws attention to many of the taboo topics that people in the church do want to talk about. So many times church folk don't want to have discussions about sexuality, gender, divorce, sexual assault or infidelity because they only want to shine the light on what they deem as positive and not acknowledge these issues to keep their respectable reputation in place. Greenleaf brings these topics to light and deals with them head on.

The casting is another part about the show that I like. Every actor fits their character's perceived personality so well. Whoever was in charge of casting nailed it. I don't want to spoil the show anymore than I already have, but after binge watching the first season and the beginning of the second season, I'm hear to tell you not to miss the "Greenleaf train". This show is great so far and it seems that with Oprah as executive producer and Craig Wright as creator Greenleaf will continue to be a hit for OWN viewers,. Greenleaf Season 1 is available on Netflix and Season 2 is now airing on OWN on Wednesdays at 10/9c. Have YOU watched Greenleaf yet? If not are you planning to? What are your thoughts on the show? Comment your thoughts below!!
